[Cloud leans back in the chair, closing his eyes and kind of wilting. Tired.]

[Zack leans back against Denzel's bed, which happens to be the closest.]

[Zack goes quiet at that, lips pursing, not needing an explanation. Instead, he reaches out and grips Cloud's shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze.]

I'm okay. [He really is, honestly. Better than before, at least. Just gonna be a few sleepless nights is all, until it all sinks in.]

[Zack studies him for a moment, then smiles and lets go.]

... Heh, you are, aren't you? I'm glad. All that worrying for nothing, huh.

Maybe it was scarier not knowing after all. [Cloud looks at his hand before scrubbing his face with it.]

Or...no. Probably not. Maybe just easier to adjust to something once you know what it is.

You're the only one who gets to make that call, Spike. I'm just glad you're able to see it from a good light instead of driving yourself crazy with it.

Yeah, that's for sure. It's a huge relief to know that we can take care of the Geostigma. Now we just have to deal with Kadaj, right?

He went after people important to me...but never me. And he never openly taunted me about it.

It's not so much that he wants me to suffer... [Cloud lifts his head; he's not sure he's right, but...he has a feeling.] He wants my attention. However he can get it.

Think about it. All of Kadaj's reasoning...he's like a little kid. [Cloud shakes his head, raking his fingers through his spikes. He'd never bothered to try and actually understand Kadaj before, just stop him. But he couldn't do that here, so...]

He's like a toddler that does bad things so people pay attention to him. But he doesn't want just anyone's attention...he wants mine. Probably because of the Jenova cells. That's why he only attacked people I'm close to.

... So what are you gonna do about it? If he wants your attention, he's sure as hell got it, but I can't see you being all buddy-buddy with him.
