We've organized groups of people to work together. There's friends here, families - even us. You wouldn't have Simon without this place, and you didn't think you could've gotten me back on our world until you came here, did you? I'd call that progress. All of that and plenty more.

[Welcome to Cloud's storm of pessimism. Get an umbrella, because B'AWWW.] So instead of being stuck in a village with a forest, we're stuck in a village, a forest and a desert. Those laptops are probably just a way to trap us into telling them what we're planning, those so-called traitors are about as trustworthy as Hojo, and we've all found each other, great. Only now we can lose each other, or worse, hurt or kill each other because of these damn experiments.

...You are such a stick in the mud. Would it kill you to trust people a little? I think they really are trying.

And I think they're trying too, but not to help us. I wish you'd be more careful about them.

Sometimes you have to take a few risks if you want to help people.

I know what that John guy is like; he's like another Hojo. He's down in the tunnels, you saw those rooms down there; he's probably doing the same damn thing.

What about the other one? He doesn't seem to trust John either.

So what? That doesn't mean anything, they probably all hate each other. They're miserable people.

Back in Nibelheim... I think it was the second year, but it was hard to tell - anyway, you were pretty out of it. Hojo had this assistant doing some of his dirty work; cleaning up the tables after he was done tearing into us, feeding us, tech work on the mako pods... menial stuff like that. Anyway, he was from a poor town, just doing this to earn money for his folks. I talked to him a few times, when he stopped being too scared to look at us for too long. He was a real mess. Owen, I think was his name. Owen-somebody.

...I'm not hearing this.

If you look for it, you can tell - you can see when someone's different. Desperate people can do terrible things... it doesn't make them evil, just wrong. I'd half-convinced him of it. Spike, do you even remember how we got out that first time, when I got shot?

...no- Zack, are you serious? You feel bad for the people that helped Hojo do that to us?

I feel bad for the one who was forced into the position where they had to watch people get hurt - someone who was killed trying to help us.
