[Cloud reached over and ruffled Zack's hair again. Just...because.]

[And just like that, Zack's smiling again, as if nothing's wrong at all.] You're stuck with me no matter what- isn't it awesome?

[Cloud pauses at that, hand faltering, then gives Zack a look and lightly smacks his cheek -enough to make a sound, not hard enough to hurt even someone who isn't a SOLDIER- before moving away to make himself a drink.]

...Hey. What was that for?

Because. [Cloud doesn't bother with the list, going with just some rum and cream mix and hopping up onto the counter to sit, sipping it.]

Brat. [And he really is. But whatever- Zack shrugs it off and mixes another drink for himself, relaxing a little.] Soooo annoying.

Takes one to know one. [The banter makes him feel a little better and he hides his smile with his glass.]

[Zack grins and leans in, watching his lips behind the glass.] You're calling me annoying? Haven't been watching yourself lately, have you? Mister Drama Queen himself!

You pointing out my drama makes you not only a brat, it makes you an instigator. [Cloud's voice is quiet, but he's still smiling and still trying to hide it.]

[Zack reaches up and pushes the cup away from Cloud's mouth, pointing in that same playfully accusing way he'd done during the Modeoheim mission.] Ha, see? You're just making fun of me! You don't believe it at all because you know I'm right!

[Cloud playfully shoves Zack back and finishes his drink, taking the time spent draining the glass to regain his straight face and composure.] I can make fun of you and be honest at the same time.

But you're a terrible liar. I know exactly what you mean when you say stuff like that. [Smiiiirky smirk.] You really mean that I'm amazing and awesome and cool and you love how right I am.

Oh I'm sure that's exactly what I was getting at. [Zack gets the special Cloud!brand of the "you are real stupid" look as he sets his glass in the sink and moves to gather the others.]

[And Zack laughs, because no matter how right Cloud might be, he can't ever take that look seriously. Stupid is more fun than serious, anyhow.] A confession at last!

[Cloud just shakes his head and starts rinsing out the glasses, debating actually washing them. ...probably best if he does, since he doesn't know when someone will be here next.] Obnoxious.

I think you're mixing up your words. That should be 'charming'.

No I'm pretty sure I was right on with "obnoxious."

But I'm adorable and everyone loves me.

Well, I never said they didn't. [Cloud shakes a glass free of some water, searching for a towel to spread on the counter so he can stack them to dry.]

[FFFFFF.] Obnoxious people are so unlovable though. They just get in your face and beg for attention and never leave you alone.

Maybe some people like that.

You think? [Cloud stacks the last glass, not looking at Zack.] ...maybe they just know they'd be lonely otherwise.

[Zack ponders that one briefly, the conversation's heading in a strange direction again, but with Cloud, that's a pretty regular occurrence.] I guess obnoxious people must be pretty grateful that there are weirdos around who can tolerate them, or they'd be pretty lonely too.

Mm, I don't know. [Cloud dries his hands off, and starts capping the bottles to replace them in the cabinets.] Obnoxious people have that weird ability to find friends everywhere.
