herobydefault: (Are you kidding me with this shit)

[Voice]

A question. [Cloud says it like it's punctuated with "for you strange people."]

If you don't have a Lifestream keeping your Planet alive, what's holding it together?

And one day, everyone will think it was ridiculous Shinra was popular at all, because living in-tune with the Planet's not so hard. That's what I'd really like to see. [She smiles, though she's trying not to think about the fact that she may or may not be alive to see it.]

It hasn't been so easy so far, though.

[Cloud hates to admit it, but Mako -and Mako reactors- made life much, much easier. Fossil fuels are in such low supply that nobody knows how to get anywhere other than by chocobo, nowadays. Let's not even talk about power.]

It wouldn't have been easy in the years to come if mako kept being used. It's the Planet's life. ...But you know that. I wish I could help-- [She bites her words off abruptly, chewing her lip slightly. She shouldn't have said that.

Then she thinks of something, and the worrying on her lip stops, and she looks up at Cloud.]
I am going to help. If everyone works together, eventually we'll find a way.

[Find a way to bring her home alive, he assumes.

...seems like a dream too good to be true.]

Yeah. We'll figure something out.

[It's actually not what she meant, and she leans toward him.] So what's that look for? I mean everyone, Cloud. You and the others shouldn't be the only ones working to make things better. It's a job for all the Planet.

Well, we're not. Everyone's doing their part.

[Kind of. Most people are still TRAUMATIZED so he can't really blame them for sitting around.]

Really? That's a great sign. [As for why she didn't assume so at first, well.. Gaia had its share of callousness, and Aerith's seen it in Midgar. But she wants to believe the best of people. Cloud says they're helping? THEY'RE HELPING. And then people leave Geostigma victims to die in the streets anyway. ...She's not going to insist on her own helpfulness anymore, because let's not make a big deal about the how.] It just makes sense. Even if you do "a little bit of everything" [And her eyes crinkle with mirth, because he really has done a little bit of everything with AVALANCHE] you're still one person. No wearing yourself out!

[Yeah if this Cloud knew about those people leaving little children to die horribly in the street...he would punch some people.]

I don't think I'll ever wear myself out again, don't worry about that. [He's got too many people mothering him for that to happen again.]

[snnnnerk that expression, Cloud.] You look so put-upon.

I am put upon. I'm a grown man, I don't need any mothering.

It's called friendly concern. Do I seem like a mother to you? [Looks herself up and down then back to him, answering her own question.] Nnnno.
