Maybe because she's not familiar with his home world, and what the real impact of what he's saying is? It's going to take a second to boil, so he heads back into the living room to talk to her since the odds of the stove bursting into flame increase when he's nearby.] I keep finding myself wanting to go out and look for her, and occasionally I'll slip up and call her Mother. I can't feel anything though, so either there's something interfering with her projection, or she's just stopped.

Considering what we know of her, it's more likely that it's the former. Though it's a step up from before. Just take it one day at a time -- you know how easily things can change.
