Since Leto's waxing philosophical, I might as well follow the trend.

If the Malnosso didn't exist, would you rather stay here or go back to your own world?

I cannot return to "my" world. That is to say, the world I was born on. And if I returned to the world I was taken from, I would simply return to a many-years long, possibly eternal, slumber. Staying here would be my preferred option by far, and it's not as if I have any obligations otherwise.

Sleep, what's...you mean actual sleep?

Yes. A sort of hibernation, if you will, until the people of that world find a place where they can live. Although I suppose "world" isn't exactly the right word to use here...

Their world was destroyed in a catastrophe that I don't know the details of long ago. Their combined levels of magic and technology were sufficient that some of them managed to escape and travel to another planet that could support life. Unfortunately, this planet was already inhabited, and the people there were not ready to co-exist with the refugees. So they decided to set up residence on one of the planet's moons. They had sufficient technology and magic to power life-support systems for those in enforced sleep, but not enough to support themselves in any other manner. They intended to remain there until the people of what they had termed "the blue planet" were ready to meet them.

[...okay, so he's heard weirder. Maybe not weirder...but...this isn't the most shocking thing he's heard.

...still pretty damn strange.]

I...see. And you're asleep because...?

One of the "Lunarians", as they now call themselves, due to living on the moon, decided to try living among the people of the blue planet himself, as they were. He ignored his fellows' arguments that they were not ready to witness the power and knowledge he possessed, and descended to the planet, eventually even falling in love and fathering two children.

This did not end well. He was murdered by a man seeking to steal more knowledge than he had the right to, and this set off a chain reaction that ended with... well, pretty much absurd levels of tragedy on all sides. I am the elder of the two children, and I ended up reaching the moon to be with my father's people.

That sounds horribly complex. [AKA I don't quite follow.]
